I don't know, something that flies is always cool.  Eagle preferable...a smallish dragon  like Kat suggests doesn't sound bad either...
General: RE: Is America More Racist or More Sexist?

Well, well Jarrod, I am not an idiot but I could see how people might think that by responding to one.  I wasn't talking about their qualifications, the point of me bringing up the topic was to discuss something totally different and outside of the scope of politics.  But if you weren't so quick to insult people but instead took time to be thoughtful maybe you would have understood what I was trying to do.

Did you know the center of the Earth is in Ecuador?  Me either, but I'm going there next week and that's what they tell me...appearently there's even a museum based on that idea.
Social: socialization, drugs, and mice

You guys, check out this mouse party!

http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/units/addiction/drugs/mouse.cfm

Please watch the animations--if there is one thing I detest, it is the term "drugs and alcohol", and this animation if anything shows very well that alcohol is JUST ANOTHER DRUG (and one with the potential to cause extremely problematic effects at that...but unless you watch the animation with prior knowledge of GABA and glutamate's respective ratios to other neurotrasmitters and their respective diffuse roles/mechanisms in the brain, you probably would need more than just the animations to pick up on the potential harmful effects of alcohol, especially in comparison to various other drugs...but that's OK, you should still check these out)

Hope everyone's finals are going well!

General: RE: curious
I grew up with an alcoholic and drug addicted mother.  I watched her on a daily basis pass out at the kitchen table drunk and loaded.  She would suddenly wake up and bang her head against the wall behind her, literally busting her head open.  She fell into Lake Pontchartrain while partying with her buddies.  Watching this growing up made it really hard to let myself get stupid drunk.  At 15 I got so drunk I cannot to this day remember how I wound up under a flight of stairs in Downtown New Orleans (where I was born and raised).  At the age of 17 I started working in bars.  I worked in a strip club at 18 (as a bartender not a stripper, not that there's anything wrong with it) and it was part of my job to drink with the customers.  I basically drank from the time I woke up at 6:30PM until I went to bed the next morning about 11:30AM.  After the club closed at 6:00AM we all went across the street to the all night neighborhood bar.  We drank until we needed to go home and get sleep for the upcoming evening-time.  This went on for a few years.  On the days that I did not work and went to bars with buddies of mine we drank.  None of this time had I ever drank at home.  Granted, we had parties at my house but I could not get the picture of my mother drunk out of my head.  Also, I want to point out that I had gotten so drunk I had a hangover maybe 2 times in my life, and once was when I was 15.  I proceeded to work as a bartender for many years... until the age of 32.  I drank at the bars socially but that's it.  I have a fully stocked bar at my house for my company but do not drink at home (again, it stems from my childhood).  Occasionally I do go out with friends and drink a couple drinks, but most of the time I just have sodas.  If I drink 5 times a year, its a lot, and one of those times is a glass of champagne on New Years Eve.  So, after all of that, I guess to answer your question.... I choose not to drink much because of the family history.  I can definitely go out and drink socially (2 drinks max) but most often choose not to.  I do not have anything against people who drink, just those who choose to drink irresponsibly.  Another thing I would like to mention, if I am in a bar, I can handle drunken people easily and it does not bother me, but if someone is in my home and is drunk, I basically kick them out (call them a cab) and not invite them back when there's going to be drinking.  I have also cut friendships over this because if anyone calls me a friend and comes to my home, they know my feelings on the subject and would have respected my feelings and my home.
General: RE: President
I would not vote for Obama for 1 reason... and I know this is really NOT a good reason but its how I feel in my heart... September 11th was not that long ago.  The Muslim Extremists have stated that they will tear our country apart from the inside.... that alone scares the dickens out of me.  I may be entirely wrong in my views but I cannot help it.  I have read some information on Obama and am currently looking for it to add to my post at a later date.... this information (and I am not entirely certain it's true or not, was passed to me by way of third party and have not had a chance to research it as of yet) give me the creeps when I think of Obama as the leader of our great country.
Jobs/Internships: RE: Jobs on Campus
I know that the on campus jobs pay from $6.50 - $10.00 an hour. Some jobs don't keep you completely busy the whole time, so you can sometimes do your homework when it's not busy.
Academic: RE: gradez
Oh, and I did make the Dean's List.  I got a certificate last week in the mail.

I would invite them to play Guitar Hero, provided they had all the necessary appendages (fingers, etc.) to play.
Social: RE: Commuters
I completely agree. Parking here @ UTSA is going to be especially bad this year. It's my first semester and I was really looking forward to the social aspect of the college experience, even though I am 30, aka over-the-proverbial-hill. However, with the parking as tough as it's going to be, and the 30-minute drive to even get to the campus, I don't expect to get anywhere nearly as heavily involved in clubs or organizations as I would like to. It's a shame.

However I haven't given up on finding something online that could get me involved. We will see.
